As the title says. Haven't read too much of it yet, but it's a pretty rare perspective, balancing as it does between pragmatism and theory. Worth a look.

I agree with the post and this, be the way, is also the reason why I don't mind Common Lisp despite the warts.

There are more interesting posts, but yeah, that's the one that caught my eye at first.

I don't mind Common Lisp either. It's just that after bouncing back and forth three or four times, it was Scheme that did the trick for me in the end. There's a reason why we Lispers tend to stick together instead of arguing.

My experience is similar as well. I have tried Racket, Guile, and Common Lisp, and ended up picking Common Lisp because of its exceptional stability over decades, and because it has the best interactive development support. Warts? Sure, but that's a minor distraction.

My main non-Lisp alternative would be Smalltalk. An even better development experience, but in exchange lots of dialect, none of which has the critical mass to develop a library ecosystem in the domains that I care about.
