Using both Lem and SLIME with SBCL on Linux

Can both Lem and SLIME/Emacs be used with SBCL on the same Linux system? Do the respective SWANK implementations interfere?

Some time ago I tried on my Linux Mint box but SLIME issued an error when started whereas Lem worked fine, which hinted at some kind of conflict or incorrect setup.

amoroso Can you please describe in more detail what exactly you want to achieve? SWANK is a tcp server which accepts only one client connection, as I know. Do you want to connect many clients to one SWANK server?

I'd like to run Lem with SBCL and SLIME/Emacs with SBCL on the same Linux box in separate, unrelated sessions and processes. For example, running Lem/SBCL, ending the session, and starting SLIME/Emacs/SBCL at some later time.

From the link I shared it seems there is some kind of setup issue or conflict but the reply I got was terse and I'm still not clearn what's going on.

Hello, I don't see why that would not be faisable? I run Lem on its own and I run Emacs/SLIME on its own at the same time.

Workaround: using sly for emacs

I was always meaning to check out SLY, so I installed it. It's really nice and can of course coexist with Lem.

vindarel I agree but when I tried I ran into the issue I mentioned. I haven't tried again since then and now I'm checking out SLY.

SLY has one big missing shortcut IMO: no slime-call-defun bound to C-c C-y.

It's lying there in a PR though, the maintainer would accept a contrib.
